JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST (Jan. 03, 2022)  -- Civil Air Patrol’s Maj. Thomas B. McGuire Composite Squadron promoted three cadets at the Kish Airman Leadership School on Joint-base McGuire, Dix, Lakehurst.

Cadet Commander Jessica Hoschek was promoted to Cadet First Lieutenant. She earned the 10th achievement in Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Program which is named after pilot Willa Brown, a CAP volunteer who went to a school that trained the first African-American military pilots. 

Cadets Katherine Clayton and Nicholas Mascio completed all the requirements for Achievement Five and were promoted to Cadet Master Sergeant.  

Squadron meetings occur at the Kish Airman Leadership School on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on Monday evenings, 6:30-9 p.m. Cadets can join Civil Air Patrol between the ages of 12 and 17 and can stay in the cadet program until age 21. Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force. In this role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 80 lives annually. CAP’s 60,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. In addition, CAP plays a leading role in aerospace/STEM education, and its members serve as mentors to over 25,000 young people participating in CAP’s Cadet Programs.
