Oct-2021 Gliders

December 2, 2021

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST (Oct. 17, 2021) – Twelve cadets had the opportunity to fly in a glider plane. While one cadet was flying, other cadets were given the position of wing runner and mirror. The three cadets who would be aging out of the program soon, had the opportunity to fly twice.

Every cadet in Civil Air Patrol’s New Jersey Wing is eligible for five glider flights before they turn age 18 through the Northeast Region's Glider Orientation Flight Program. These free orientation flights are intended to share the thrill of flying with cadets as young as 12. Cadets are also eligible for five flights in a powered aircraft (usually a single-engine Cessna). Cadets also enjoyed social time and got to know their fellow cadets.

“It was such an amazing opportunity and experience to pursue my goal and make friends through CAP,” said Cadet Abigail Berkeyheiser, who was on her first glider flight trip.
